1989’s Kickboxer helped turn Jean-Claude Van Damme into a household name and now the action star is set to return to the franchise that started it all. THR reports that Van Damme is in final negotiations to star in a remake that will see him not returning to the role of martial artist “Kurt Sloane” who travels to Thailand to avenge his brother’s death, but will instead play “Master Chow”, the kickboxing expert who teaches Sloane the art of the kick. The remake is currently in production in New Orleans and stars X-Men Days of Future Past stuntman Alain Moussi as “Sloane” and Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista as “Tong Po” the man responsible for Sloane’s brother’s death. Thai action star Tony Jaa was originally set to play Chow, but had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. George St. Pierre, who played “Batroc” in Captain America: The Winter Soldier rounds out the cast. Production is set to move to Thailand in a few weeks for a planned 2015 release. The original Kickboxer earned a respectable $15 million at the US box office off a budget of just $1.5 million and spawned 4 sequels. The remake promises some kick-ass moments, but while you wait for its eventual release, go ahead and click here to check out our list of the 7 most badass movie moments of all-time.
