Jim Sterling doesn't understand Steam anymore | New Releases is now a Discovery Queue
This is not a defense of Valve, if anything I'm saying you probably shouldn't use Steam anymore. I usually enjoy having the Jimqusition on in the background when I'm working on other things, but in this case hearing him doing his usual "Steam Cleaning", he seems to have missed the entire fact steam got rid of it's "New Releases" section and replaced it with a "New Releases: Discovery Queue".
In attempting to fight the system, the system now fights him with the algorithm the way it is, he's created a self-fufilling prophecy where he will be served up an endless supply of what Steam referres to as "Fake Games". And yes, as long as people buy "Fake Games" they will be allowed on the service. Greenlight was a mistake and it didn't turn out how they wanted, but Steam Direct really wasn't a mistake at all.
The first thing you need to abandon is the idea that steam is some kind of exclusive platform, now anyone can use it for any reason. No more legit games not able to get on the service, no more "Fake Games" getting on the service by cheating the system. Everyone gets a shot.
The "New Releases" section is no more, and no matter how many products pop up at the same time, it will prioritize. For Jim Sterling however, it will prioritize the "Fake Games" because he's proven to be a consumer of them. Anyone who follows suit like he does, the system will identify as a buyer of "Fake Games" and serve more of them for you.
I totally understand and approved of his cleaning of Steam Greenlight and criticism of games that got through it, but this is an open system now and his news is now no longer news.
If he wants to be a curator and critic of bad games, that's fine, but he fundamentally doesn't understand the shift in the platform -- the exclusive steam club is gone, forever.
Honestly GOG is way better than steam and I'd recommend using them instead.
