right actualy refering to something as haunting as the Strogg as "toys" is mildly misleading. they are sadistic scum but hey they make good fodder for the bullets, shells and err zaps?
i am quaking and it is taking me very long time to penetrate the base, admitidley because i explore it a little bit but you know it is just how i play any game that i feel warrants me doing this in.
Quake II is first game i destinctly remember as ID software, i almost certainly played Wolf 3D first and likely Doom II but not Quake I or Doom 1 / 95 ... i have an odd view of ID software. on one hand they were shockingly good and on the other they seemed unwilling o unable to make consistently creative games past 2'002 or so. i think we could have actualy used the 1'998 raven attitude in Quake IV (which i still rank far above arena/team arena/live cause i dont PvP or multiplay realy) and doom cubed, mainly because it dose infact try and keep to the lore of Quake II. and as someone who likes this side of the quakedom (the other two being eldritch horrors of first quake and just arena shooter fundational statement of Arena - team arena - live), it was given most shots sure but it kinda missed the audience in attempts i feel. those who saught Sandy's loveletter to lovecraftian horrors were annyoned upon release of QII because that was not there, it was still on tehcbases sure but more morbid concoctions of flesh and metal than horror that were not as destinct as doom sprites noras haunting as first quake.
realy quake II and IV should have been their own game series.
