The KDE Plasma Desktop is an amazing environment that offers a beautiful appearance of the desktop that Total takes advantage of modern computing technology.
The team behind the project says that if you're looking for a familiar working environment, Plasma Desktop gives you all the tools you need for a modern desktop computing experience so you can be productive right from the start.
In fact, through the use of visual effects and scalable graphics, the desktop experience is not only smooth but also pleasing to the eye.
Now, the KDE Project today released the second one-off release in its series of KDE Plasma 5.23 desktop environments, KDE Plasma 5.23.2.
KDE Plasma 5.23.2 released – Check out what's new
There are over 30 changes included in this update. KDE Plasma 5.23.2 arrives just a week after KDE Plasma 5.23.1 and introduces a great feature for NVIDIA GPU users, namely, support for the GBM backend of NVIDIA's proprietary graphics driver.
Over time, this should improve the Plasma experience for NVIDIA users in a number of ways.
If you are using the Plasma Wayland session, you should know that KDE Plasma 5.23.2 improves the Touchpad page in System Settings to correctly display options on how you can right click and fix a bug that causes maximized windows stop responding to mouse and keyboard input when using the hidden “BorderlessMaximizedWindows” setting.
Speaking of keyboard input, this release sees the return of the F10 keyboard shortcut to create a folder on the desktop, as well as the Shift + Delete keyboard shortcut to permanently delete items on the desktop.
Also, KDE Plasma 5.23.2 improves search fields throughout the Plasma desktop to work correctly when using the virtual keyboard.
Plasma Discover's graphics package manager also received attention in this one-off release, now allowing users of certain distros, such as Fedora Linux, to immediately remove an application after it has been installed without having to exit and restart Discover.
Also, the Plasma Discover install buttons now look good on systems running KDE Plasma 5.23 with KDE Frameworks 5.86 and adds the ability to detect when a locally downloaded package is already installed when you try to install it, so you can remove it.
Among other noteworthy changes, KDE Plasma 5.23.2 improves the new Kickoff application menu “Keep Open” feature to keep the popup open even when you want to launch applications or open menu items, as well as not to display more apps from the last category highlighted in the main view when hovering over the “Help Center” item in the sidebar.
Last but not least, this second version of KDE Plasma 5.23 brings back the ability to display the desktop context menu actions “Add to Trash” and “Delete”, improving support for the configuration dialog of the Plasma applet on 1024 × 768 resolution screens when using the bottom panel and improves support for multi-monitor configurations.
Plasma 5.23.2 is already official, but as usual this doesn't mean we can easily install it on our Linux distribution.
The first system to have it available will be KDE neon, where it will probably arrive in the next few hours.
