Fresh from unveiling the Xubuntu 22.04 codename — “Jammy Jellyfish”, to save you a click — opening the archives, and sharing a tentative release date on Discourse, the first official development snapshots in the Xubuntu 22.04 LTS cycle are primed for action.
Not that there’s much to see yet, of focus!
Can we expect a few new things this cycle? Likely, including GNOME 41 (or later) and further work on the new Flutter-based Xubuntu installer.
If you’re technically minded (and like bugs) you can spin up a virtual machine or create a separate install to install Xubuntu 22.04 daily build and follow along with its development. Just install updates as they appear and you’ll be riding the 22.04 release cycle like a pro.
Download Ubuntu 22.04 Daily Build
Xubuntu daily builds are (as their name suggests) far from final, finished, or bug-free versions. Do not install an Ubuntu 22.04 daily build as your primary OS.
Use a separate partition, a dedicated development device, or a virtual machine if possible — and remember to make frequent backups of anything important while using them!

Feature Predictions
Ubuntu 22.04 should feature GNOME 42 (due by March 2022), the latest stable Linux Kernel. The exact kernel version is difficult to predict because LTS Kernel versions are carefully chosen due to their multi-year nature.
As per the release plan, Jammy Jellyfish should bring OpenSSL 3.0, php8.1, Ruby 3.0, Python 3.10, and OpenLDAP2.6.
On the application side, we should expect all the latest upstream versions of the apps such as LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird.
Whether Firefox should be staying as snap package by default or not, we will see.
Flutter-based new Ubuntu desktop installer should be introduced, as it missed the October Impish Indri release.
And obviously, a new wallpaper is due.
