Kena: Bridge of Spirits PS5 vs PS4 Pro - Frame Rate And Load Time Comparison
Revealed at last year’s PlayStation Showcase, Kena: Bridge of Spirits has seen its fair share of delays. It’s about a Spirit Guide named Kena who ventures to a dilapidated village in an unknown land. Seeking to lay its spirits to rest, she sets about rejuvenating the area as players learn more about her past. To help on her journey, Kena can enlist the aid of the Rot, small spirit companions that help in combat, puzzle solving and more. She also has a staff which transforms into a bow to fight off enemies.
We recently got the chance to analyze the game's performance on the PS5 and PS4 Pro and we have some interesting results to share. But, a quick note before we go ahead. We analysed the performance by taking some sample scenes from the game and running it through trdrop, an open source software. This tool gives us a mere demonstration of the game’s performance, because an exact 1:1 representation of performance can only be provided by the developers themselves, since they have access to a vast array of tools and profilers.
In terms of PS5 features, Kena: Bridge of Spirits offers two graphics modes Fidelity mode, which runs at native 4K and 30 FPS, and Performance Mode, running in dynamic 4K and targeting 60 FPS. On the PS4 Pro, the game runs at 1440p at 30 frames per second.
Performance for the most part is solid on both platforms with minimum frame rate drops. The game also takes advantage of the PS5's SSD resulting in loading times that are multiple times faster compared to the PS4 Pro. We will leave you with more frame rate tests and comparisons, so check them out and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. Also, let us know what game you want us to test next.
