Keybindings - When the Default Keybinds Aren't the Best
0Every time I start a new game, I spend a LOT of time setting up my keybinds. Then once I'm in game, and I can't figure out how to interact with something or do something, my teammates tell me - JUST PRESS E. And then starts a conversation about how E is move forward for me. And this just blows their minds! But would you be surprised to hear that a lot of people actually use ESDF? It's a lot rarer to find people using arrow keys for movement and WASD is very popular... but there's a growing number of people adopting the ESDF keybindings.
Every time I have this conversation in a game, players tell me I should make a video about why I use the keybinds I do. And well - now I have! I'm not sure I'll be converting many of you to using my keybinds, but it might open up the idea that you don't have to use WASD. I don't even know who thought WASD was the optimal keys to use. Why those? Based on how we're "supposed" to type, it doesn't make sense why someone decided to move our hand over by one key for gaming purposes. Then every time you type in game, you have to move your hand over one key. I dunno - it doesn't make sense to me!
But it's not just that - I also use reverse mouse. If you've been gaming for a long time, chances are, you are familiar with reverse mouse - and possible even a user. While this is a preference thing for most of us, not for all. My friend ChiggyPepi won't use anything but reverse mouse because of his profession (and he doesn't want to mess with the muscle memory that literally could be a life hazard). I have a theory for why I think they stopped using reverse mouse in games that I cover in the video. Let me know what you think.
What KBM settings do you use? Are your bindings and settings similar to my own or do you use something completely unique to you? Are you more of a go with the defaults player or do you like to tweak and make some of your own adjustments?
