I'm Gaming Jay: Youtube gamer, let's player, fan of retro games, and determined optimist... Join me in this series while I try out EACH of the video games in the book 1001 VIDEO GAMES YOU MUST PLAY BEFORE YOU DIE, before I die. The game review for each game will focus on the question of whether you MUST play this game before you die. But to be honest, the game review parts are just for fun, and are not meant to be definitive, in depth reviews; this series is more about the YouTube gamer journey itself. From Mario games to the Halo series, from arcade games to Commodore 64, PC games to the NES and Sega Genesis, Playstation to the Xbox, let's play those classic retro games that we grew up with, have fond memories of, or heard of but never got a chance to try! And with that said, the game review for today is...

Jay's Thoughts
Kill Switch is a third-person shooter where you take control of a soldier who's been taken control of by a third party who themselves is controlling the soldier remotely. Whoa... meta... right?
The game itself is a solid third-person shooter. It takes place in relatively modern times and after training sees you head to the mid-east and then towards Russia. I presume other contemporary warzones get explored in later levels of course. Though the enemies can occasionally feel a little stock and battles are nothing that modern games don't do, the fighting feels very fun and satisfying. And the game really plays well.
Though it may sound like a pretty typical affair it was done quite well, and the controls felt fluid. More so, this is the first game to popularize the cover-system that is now widespread in third-person shooters, appearing in games like Gears of War and Uncharted. And on that front, this game is just as fun as those. In fact, given that it holds up to its better known peers fairly well, I feel like this game really is a hidden gem. Of course, shooters aren't everyone's favorite genre, but if you do like shooters, I definitely recommend trying this one out. It's worth a play!
➙ Must You Play It?
A well done and fun first-person shooter that actually was the first to popularize the cover-system that is now common in games like Gears of War and Uncharted. A very enjoyable game in its own right though, Kill Switch is a game worth checking out!
