The white men responsible for the death of Ahmaud Arbery were previously sentenced to life in prison. Now, during their hate crimes trial, it was revealed the men reportedly shared racist text messages and white supremacist videos with one another.
This past Wednesday, jurors were shown text messages from Travis McMichael proving that he was racist. This comes after McMichael previously testified that he wasn’t racist. One of the messages reportedly found McMichael texting a friend that he was happy to be out of the Coast Guard and working as a contractor for the government because there were “zero n****rs.”
The neighbor who helped McMichael chase down Arbery—William Bryan, reportedly sent racial texts calling his daughter’s Black boyfriend a racial slur. The FBI reportedly couldn’t access Gregory McMichael’s phone due to the strict encryption rules by Apple. All three men are facing life sentences in prison, on top of the life sentences they are already serving. Stay tuned for more updates.
