Playing through the NEOGEO version of The King of Fighters '99 in "The King of Fighters: NESTS Compilation (NeoGeo Online Collection v.7)" for PS2, in the emulator PCSX2 in Windows, as the team of Li Xiangfei, Clark Still, Blue Mary Ryan, and Joe Higashi! On default AES difficulty 3/8. 'p'

Forgot Vanessa & Seth didn't appear as strikers until '99 Evolution--the Dreamcast version, which is also on this disc but eh has 3D backgrounds and lots of blurry filtering even with my usually blur-defeating settings in PCSX2. : P

Rolls are seemingly easily/accidentally cancelled here! Kept accidentally aborting them.

Characters turn around rather slowly in this; with Clark for instance if I ended up behind someone, or they ended up behind me, it would take him ages to turn around and he'd usually get hit. My usual KOF 2000 roll-behind-them-and-hit-em-from-behind cheapness doesn't work at all here. I cried about that a lot. ; D

And in KOF 2000 you can call strikers pretty much any time your character is grounded; here, it seems like you have to be standing neutral in order to call the striker, which is really not very convenient!

So eh I'll probably stick to KOF 2000, it flows better.

It's impressive how ambitious some of the stages are for the NEOGEO hardware, particularly the last couple, with huge mechanical transformations and so forth. Boss Krizalid's 2nd form isn't QUITE as bad as I'd feared, I guess, but dang that long leg (and heck yeah I used continue service ; D).

The story scenes leading up to the ending are a bit drawn-out; could have used a slightly faster pace.
