Kingdom Hearts 2 FM - Vexen Data
The FUCK, Square Enix. Who thought this would be a good idea? This battle is a disaster! Holy Chaos is this battle utterly HORRENDOUS.
Fake Difficulty is this battle in two words. Extremely difficult, but for unfair, stupid reasons. No satisfaction in victory whatsoever, and no enjoyment of the challenge either.
Increasing Difficulty : Marluxia - Saix - Demyx - Sephiroth - Roxas - Larxene - Vexen
First, do NOT expect any display of skill from me whatsoever. I tried several things to make the battle enjoyable and entertaining, but they all failed, either because I die, or because I seriously need a terabyte of memory to record a video that long.
Vexen's shield prevents him from flinching. The shield has its own HP and only breaks if hit by a physical Finisher, which is much, much harder than it seems since Vexen hovers quickly everywhere. When you do break the shield, Vexen is open for only a very short time, as little as 1.5 seconds later in the fight.
Attacks consist of ice pillars spam FOREVER. Everything one-hit-kills of course. There are also snowflakes that can surprise you, and an ice storm that freezes Sora if he gets hit.
What COMPLETELY ruins the fight though, is Anti-Sora - summoned by Vexen when the Data Bar charges to at least 1 bar. It charges when the symbol on the ground is under you. The higher the bar, the more HP Anti Sora has, but its attack is immediately lethal. Extremely long combos, guaranteed death, often despite Second Chance and Once More. The real Anti Sora cannot attack this much and doesn't have such an insane attack priority.
Anti-Sora is horrible because he's even more dangerous than Vexen, and once summoned, completely independent. This is literally fighting two overpowered bosses at once, each with their randomness and their instant kills. Add to that how HARD it is to actually DAMAGE Vexen, and there you go - you understand this battle.
Whenever you break Vexen's shield, it's typically by accident, and even if you do hit him after, Anti Sora will immediately stop you and Vexen will regenerate his shield. The game's Lock On system and even the camera are not good enough for fighting these things together. You can very easily die just trying to Lock On to the target you want, so good luck doing something as complicated as breaking Vexen's shield and attack him.
It gets worse. Vexen can and will summon Anti Sora over and over. If he's already out, he's replaced by a fresh one. That's why I can't risk taking my time and killing Anti Sora before attacking the solo Vexen, unless the Data has 1 or 2 bars only.
It gets even worse. Vexen's Desperation Move is just insulting. It starts as a COUNTER, hits inhumanely many times but kills in maybe 2 hits, may pass through Second Chance and Once More, is unblockable, is hard to dodge with Glide and almost impossible without, and ends with a move that freezes Sora, guaranteeing the final hit which is ALWAYS an instant kill EVEN with SC and OM (at level 49 at least). The good news is, you probably won't see the DM more than once per fight, though it is possible to do it more.
I did a lot of Synthesis recently. This gave me Ultima (though I didn't use it), as well as all 4 ultimate weapons of Donald and Goofy. In this video, they both have their Save The Queen/King weapons, mostly helping Donald by giving him a 2nd Hyper Healing ability.
Sora has an extra MP Haste from the Full Bloom+ Accessory. I crafted Ribbons, which at this point can decrease ALL damage by 43%, but since Anti-Sora will 1HP me instantly anyhow, I equipped 4 Shock Charm+, giving me 4 Thunder Boost abilities. Thunder is good for killing Anti-Sora.
Sora uses Oblivion for its Drive Boost ability. My main strategy for this fight is to summon Chicken Little and spam surviving with 1 HP while he heals me and blocks Anti Sora. With Oblivion + Sora's own Drive Boost + Summon Boost, Chicken Little can be out for a long time. He will often vanish when Vexen hits him too much, which doesn't stun him but decreases his Drive bar. Spamming Reflect proved to be useful for damaging both Anti-Sora and Vexen while massively rechaging Drive.
Vexen is weak to Fire. I had a Fire Boost, so enjoy that extra 20% power. Spamming Fire involves not doing any Finisher, and instead pausing briefly, and restarting to Fire again. This allows you to attack more times until Vexen finally recovers his shield.
Finish was unintentional, but I don't have any epic ideas how to finish anyway. Vexen does NOT have a "0HP Easter Egg", much to my disappointment. This is the only Data fight in the game I do not enjoy, (not too fond of some others, but they have redeeming factors, such as Axel).
