Kingdom Hearts:Reverse?Re-Birth Part 20:The End
So, we have come to the end of Playing Re-Chain of Memories as well as 1.5 Edition as we close out Riku's story here. It has been a rather interesting time and, like per usual, I might spoil things in my final thoughts so, you have been forewarned.
So, I'm sort of on the fence about this game for a few reasons. First, I have always been rather interested in Riku's side of the story since we barely get to see him so, when I heard that we got to play him, I got rather excited. Even though he had a different fighting style than Sora, I did feel like them put a rather odd limit on him as a character. The made it so there was no way to interact with your deck (adding cards, treasure rooms, etc) which was a rather odd change all things considering. Why include it for Sora but not Riku? I guess cause they would need to add a whole new array of sleights for him to use. I do like the fact that he has a dark mode (although initiating it was kind of a pain) but I thought it was strange that most of his sleights (or at least, his powerful/good sleights) were only usable within dark mode. The focused a little too heavily on card breaking with Riku for some reason. They also added a Dueling system which let you do a really cool move, only if you card break the enemy several times in an allotted time. I do think the time was too short since I had to search for cards in a deck that I have never seen before (since they change every world). I also thought it odd that, whenever you dueled, the enemy seemed to play 7's or higher. The worlds felt bland since there wasn't any reason to explore in them. The story was nice though, the progression of Riku understanding and accepting his darkness was pretty cool to watch. I do think it is odd that he can smell darkness (out of all the senses, why that one?) and it did feel a little sudden when he did accept it. All in All, I think that the game does have some concerns but, considering it is just a 10-hour campaign after beating the main game, there is still quite a bit of content to play here if you so desire. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, especially after just completing Re-Chain of Memories since they took few things out.
