Classic games for various systems including NES, SNES, Genesis, Turbo Graphx 16, etc.
Day 1 will feature a Mystery Tournament with some of the NY area's best fighting-game players and speedrunners, beginning at 4:00 PM EST on Sunday, September 2. Unlike other similar tournaments, this focuses heavily on short "races" (think "Complete World 1 of Super Mario Bros.") in various obscure retro games on such consoles as the NES, SNES, Genesis, Turbografx-16/PC Engine, and PC Engine CD; unlike UFGT each match will use a different game, with the two players each playing on their own setup and the victory going to the first player to complete the given goal. Many of these race ideas have come from some of the most experienced players at SpeedRunsLive, and they should be a lot of fun for the players and the viewers alike!
In the event that both players in a race Game Over, the player who made it farther wins.
The possible games also include a number of non-mainstream or "poverty" fighting games and other vs. games (think of Mario Kart's Battle Mode, or Bomberman).
The bracket for this tournament will be capped at 32 entrants, and there will be a $10 entry fee to be donated to RAINN. Each round of the tournament will have a different theme (e.g. NES, Genesis, Fighting Game), up until the top 8. We save the best for last!
The pre-top 8 bracket setup for this tournament is as follows:
Winners 1 = NES Race
Losers 1 = Genesis Race
Winners 2 = Turbografx-16/PC Engine Race
Losers 2 = SNES Race
Losers 3 = PC Engine CD Race
Winners 3 = Fighting Game
Losers 4 = Non-Fighting Vs. Game
NOTE TO THE STREAM MONSTERS: Each match on stream will present a choice between two different games to be played and this is where you, the viewers, come in! You will have 7 minutes after the game announcement to donate to RAINN and choose the game - indicate in your donation comment which game you want, and the game with more total in donations will win!
Players at the venue can also donate for any incentive, even if they are in the tournament match in question!
UPDATE: There will not be a game choice for the grand finals. Instead, we will give you 7 minutes before the start of the finals to do DONATION SIDEBETS! That's right, donate at least $10 and give your pick to win in your comment! Those who pick the winner will then be entered into a raffle for one of Rithli's limited-edition Skillionaire t-shirts! Only M and L are available, FYI.
