Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards: Part 28: Ripple Star Final Boss (Miracle Matter & Bad Ending)
The boss level, the last level of Ripple Star, is not the 5th one, it's the 4th one.
Here, you are instantly sent into the final boss of the game, a dark dimensional being known as Miracle Matter.
Oh my god, the music here actually sounds INTENSE!
----------
The deal with fighting Miracle Matter here is that he uses each of Kirby's singular Copy Abilities as his own...
Fire/Burning: MM shoots out flames in four directions.
Cutter: MM flies around in circles to shave away at Kirby in his path.
Spark: MM blasts lightning beams that can wraparound the screen and deflects off from his body.
Bomb: MM creates dark bubbles that can then split into more bubbles in a process called Mitosis.
Needle: MM hits eight sides of the screen with spiked pillars.
Ice/Freeze: MM surrounds itself with ice crystals.
Stone: MM drops boulders down, and then rolls around as one.
The only way to damage Miracle Matter in each of these states... is to hit him with the same power!
If he's Ice, use Ice, if he's Cutter, use Cutter, etc.
He always leaves behind shots that Kirby can use against him, either to spit stars right at him, or attacking him with the Copy Ability, itself. You can even use Ability Combos to damage Miracle Matter, just as long as one of them is the ability that MM is currently using.
Each of Miracle Matter's own Copy Abilities is tied to a smaller portion of his whole health meter. If he's damaged enough in one state, then he won't be able to use that power anymore. As such, this video shows that the last power I had left to knock out of him was Stone.
Beat him to get what may be your last Crystal Shard...
(But it wasn't mine...)
----------
With Miracle Matter defeated, and one more Crystal Shard assembled, Ribbon's Crystal had enough power to purge the darkness right out of her planet Ripple Star, forcing Dark Matter to escape.
After celebrating a victory of saving multiple worlds, Kirby, Adeleine, Waddle Dee, and King Dedede were reward with a ship that will send them right back to Pop Star in one piece.
Ribbon, alongside her Queen Fairy, waved goodbye to their new friends, hoping that they will soon see each other again.
...But alas... the job wasn't done...
Unbeknownst to Ribbon, her Queen was still possessed. Possessed by something even more terrifying than Dark Matter...
----------
The credits sequence shows off all of the staff that worked on the game, as usual, including the detail that Masahiro Sakurai was a voice actor here. Dedede's voice actor.
But also, notice the sketches throughout the credits. They're pretty cute, but it also feels like there's still... something to be desired out of them.
Ribbon and Adeleine look rather sad, and the Queen Fairy is having trouble getting her hair done. King Dedede doesn't look too happy, either, but at least Waddle Dee is still adventurous, and Kirby is about to eat an apple.
But before that last Kirby drawing, take note of things, such as the sprout from the ground, the sketch of Dark Matter, and...
...w-what is THAT smiling thing at 4:47...?!
If you want to find out the truth, you'll have to beat Miracle Matter again, but this time with ALL Crystal Shards collected!
Stay tuned!
