Merry Christmas, everyone! It may not be winter-themed, but it's still nice to see this #100 special fall on the holiday.

I try to save these spots for games and / or soundtracks that are important to me as a gamer, so Xenoblade Chronicles seemed an ideal choice. It's a fantastic breath of fresh air for Japanese RPGs, with huge, colorful environments, a unique story with endearing characters, and one of the best soundtracks on the Wii. I'm sure that everything about the game will stick with me for a long time, so I can't wait to see what Monolith Soft is cooking up next with their upcoming "X" title.

Colony 6 is one of Xenoblade's most interesting features. Upon your arrival, you find the buildings mostly destroyed and the citizens fled. You can then complete a long series of side quests that span the rest of the game to build the settlement back to its former glory - and then some. These quests persist for most of a 100+ hour game, so it's incredibly rewarding to view the fruits of your labors. The colony is gradually restored from a wreckage-strewn wasteland to the game's single most populous and diverse city. All the while, the area's theme grows to match your progress. It starts soft and mellow and ends joyous and triumphant, preserving the same core melody throughout. It provides a feeling of satisfaction and pride like no other.
