Kotaku Is Dying: Editor-in-Chief Quits Amid Sweet Baby Inc Backlash
330Kotaku's editor-in-chief, Jen Glennon, has resigned from her role, citing a new editorial directive from G/O Media that prioritizes game guides over news. This decision has sparked controversy within the gaming community, with many questioning the future direction of the publication.
Glennon's resignation letter expressed her belief that the decision to focus on guides is "fundamentally misguided" and ignores the site's current infrastructure. She highlighted the disregard for the livelihoods of the remaining writers and editors at Kotaku.
According to sources, Kotaku staffers are now expected to produce 50 guides per week, a significant shift from the site's previous emphasis on news coverage. The site's landing page, which typically featured major stories and breaking news, has been replaced with tips and guides.
Glennon's departure marks another leadership change for Kotaku, following Patricia Hernandez's reported firing in August 2023. The reasons for these changes, as well as the future of Kotaku, remain uncertain.
