Starting off, we'll pick our starting class. Each starting class has it's own strengths and weaknesses, but won't necessarily restrict what you can do.
The Scoundrel is the class that starts off with the highest number of skill points, however, it is the weakest in direct combat.
The Soldier starts off as the strongest combat class, with a high number of feats, but is less useful outside of combat due to their low skill points.
The Scout is a good balance between the two, starting of with a good amount of skills, and useful combat feats. The Scout is my personal favorite class, and the one I recommend for new players.
Select the face that makes you feel pretty, and move on to attributes. These will be important, since it will more clearly define your build throughout the game, and you will only gain one more attribute point every 4 levels.
Strength, Dexterity, and Wisdom will be the primary attributes depending on how you or your party members fight. Strength for melee weapons, like vibroblades or lightsabers. Dexterity for ranged weapons and bonuses to defense. And Wisdom for offensive force powers. You should decide early on what kind of fighting style you'll be using.
Constitution adds extra health and can be useful on anyone, but there are many ways to mitigate damage, so don't waste too many points on this.
Charisma can be useful for force users, but also for Persuasion - the most important skill for the main character, regardless of build.
Intelligence determines the number of skill points you gain at the start, and each time you level up. While its possible to avoid this attribute, it would require frequent swapping of party members, and the use of specific skill-boosting items - so I recommend 12 or 14 Intelligence for newer players, if nothing else but for convenience.
Getting started with Skills, I will get the most important two out of the way first - Persuade and Repair. Persuade can only be used by the main character, and without it, can severely limit you in conversations - which happen all the time. Repair allows you to repair droids, which can be used in combat - but the primary reason that you want high repair is for a party member that you will meet on Tatooine - a minimum of 17 is needed, and can be boosted with certain items.
The least useful are Treat Injury and Stealth. While it may sound useful to heal more, Treat Injury only increases the healing of medpacs, and there are other ways of healing - through force powers, at certain locations, or passive health regeneration. Stealth may seem fun on paper, but in KOTOR 1, it is extremely slow, and can leave a character vulnerable if revealed, with no real uses.
Of the remaining skills, Computer Use and Awareness are used most frequently. Computer Uses can let you gain map information, disable enemy droids, weaken, or even outright kill enemies. Awareness is often used to detect mines, which can seriously damage you if you aren't careful.
Demolitions can be used to disable or even pick up mines detected by the Awareness skill, which can be either sold, or used.
Security will let you open certain doors and gain access to different areas, but sees less use than the other skills. Note that there are items in the game called "Security Spikes" which due to a coding error (*On PC) do not help with the security skill, and should be sold instead.
Moving on to Feats, these are passive bonuses that will make you more effective and are mostly combat related. The feats that should be prioritized are the ones that give you a bonus to your attack - your chance to hit. If you plan on using a single weapon, the dueling feat should be taken, and if using a two-handed weapon or dual wielding, the two-weapon fighting should be taken.
Finally after the game opens up and you are able to travel to new planets, you may be wondering where you should go first. While you can complete these planets in any order, it should be noted that the planets Tatooine and Kashyyyk each have a party member, so you may want to visit those two first. Additionally Korriban has some special dialogue if you do it last.
Anyway thats all I have, consider subscribing and let me know if this was helpful. Be good out there
