After successfully arriving & achieving Luna orbit, Luna 9 commences it's primary mission, To perform a low resolution scan of the moon's surface.
This should provide a good first idea of where to place an eventual soft landing mission.
Luna 10 transmits what little science is to be had with its' small selection of equipment & then successfully impacts the moon's surface.
