The opposing player's username, "おめえー弱すぎwww”, translates to " you're so weak lol". I felt it was fair to record their defeat for posterity.

00:00 - 00:25 - Opponent's deck
00:26 - 00:52 - Turn 1, Opponent's start
00:52 - 01:38 -Turn 2, Skill Drain'd
01:38 - 02:55 -Turn 3, Opponent's plays, preparing counterattack
02:58 - 03:25 Turn 4, Counterattack!
03:26 - 04:36 Turns 5 & 6, closing it out

Anyways, they're on Dark Magician, a deck focused around one of Yami's signature anime cards! "Eternal Soul" gives it the powerful "unaffected" trait, making they can't be...affected, by my card effects. "Dark Magician the Dragon Knight" then gives their spells and traps, like Eternal Soul, targeting and destruction protection. It's a big wall of protection to get past!

....However. My opponent has activated Skill Drain, a continuous trap that negates all monster effects on the field. This slows down my combos, but it also prevents Dragon Knight's protection effect from working. And Eternal Soul has an effect where if it's removed, my opponent has to destroy all of their monsters!

Turn 3 I spot the situation and do my setup, and turn 4 I take them apart. My key approach was to make sure I had a lvl 8 Fiend on the field after the battle, at the end of the turn. Since the opponent had two monsters, I could pull out Lovely Lady, return her to my hand, then use her effect to summon herself. Then on Turn 4, I can use the effect of Big Welcome in the GY to bounce Eternal Soul and destroy all their monsters, and play it by ear from there. I just also happened to get Nadir Servant for even more followup, and access to the toolbox effects that Dogmatika Punishment lets you use to solve all sorts of problems.

Anyways. Skill Drain in my experience has this kind of corrosive effect on people's plays where they start gravitating towards big dumb idiots with high stats and protection effects under it. But they trade away their ability to proactively alter the game state, essentially ceding to their opponent the ability to dictate the flow of the game. It's a card that teaches bad habits.
