We kick off our second annual Indian Cinema Month with a look at a film centered on a high-stakes game of cricket between the colonial British and rural Indians: Lagaan. Starring charismatic lead Aamir Khan as Bhuvan, he wagers three years of grain taxes on a game of cricket against the occupying Brits. Its sports meets musical in this epic that succeeds most of the time but makes some truly mindboggling decisions. Artist Maggie the Odd joins Chris to talk about the film, how it stacks up against other Indian cinema, and the film's out-of-place narrator.
