8Laplace no Ma (ラプラスの魔) is a role-playing video game developed and published by Nihon Falcom for the Sharp X68000, it originally launched on NEC PC88, and PC98 as well as the MSX, Turbo-CD, and the Super Famicom. It originally released in Japan on July 04, 1987, but the Sharp X6800 version released on December 8, 1990.
Laplace no Ma is a classic Japanese role-playing game in the truest sense of the genre. However, the game does an interesting mix of survival horror and setting the world in a Lovecraftian town in Boston, Massachusetts called "Newcam". This city was modeled after the fictional city Arkham created by H. P. Lovecraft.
The horror part of the game lies in the exploration of the fictional Weathertop Mansion, whose owner dabbled in black magic. The game's RPG features include its character classes—Dilettante, Medium, Detective, Scientist, and Journalist. All of which have unique skills that can help with progression or defeating the likes of ghosts, demons, and monsters.
The game's soundtrack was composed by Akiko Kosaka.
