The technology landscape is changing at an ever-accelerating speed, and established financial institutions are facing stiff competition from FinTech startups. Rigid architectures, based around risk-avoidance, become a blocker to innovation, where small agile operations can try new things without remorse. Users have gotten accustomed to always-available, instant services, where processing in daily or monthly batches just don't cut it anymore.
In this session we will share how Rakuten Card has transformed a dinosaur-era processing system into a modern Java EE platform, and how Jakarta EE will help us embrace the best technologies and solutions to empower our continued growth. Learn how a mainframe architecture can be evolved incrementally and systematically, without risking the day-to-day business.
Objective of the presentation:
We want to introduce how the Java EE standard can help escaping from the legacy, vendor-locked-in, and mainframe technology stack, which the financial industry in particular is infamous for, using our own success story as a real-world example. Standards have lead to a stable, rich platform with strong support from many major vendors, and with the birth of Jakarta EE inside Eclipse Foundation, creating an open community to push the standard further, we are placing our bets to accelerate this process.
