Most kids and a lot of adults have a fear of failure. We haven't been taught how to deal with failure. Video games are the new kid on the block when it comes to entertainment media. Although they have been around for more than forty years there is still a bias against utilizing games to help instruct and teach. Video games have a great advantage in that they have virtual environments that are repeatable, variable, and portable allowing for teachable moments to be constructed and repeated. These elements make games, especially video games ideal for teaching how to deal with failure.

Not all teaching moments need to be constructed, and different games and environments provide additional opportunities to tackle a wide range of issues and topics from emotional reactions to less than ideal outcomes to how to interact with other people from varying backgrounds and cultures.

Setting up the proper environment for people, especially kids, to learn is essential. If the environment doesn't match the requirement then the process of learning becomes much more difficult. Now that we have additional technology and more ways to enable learning it's time to take a look at non-conventional methods to provide learning opportunities to cover simple but difficult topics to master.
