Legend of Dungeon in the DK2, raw footage, no commentary
Just made a quick play-through for people curious how it looks in the DK2. I performs quite well if you turn off vsync, it can cause some tearing but that was way better than the judder I had before that. Also did not get it to run in Direct to Rift mode, but extended works.
Pro-tip, use WIN+Shift+[Arrows] to move a full-screen application between screens.
Characters feel a bit flat as they are sprites, it sometimes is hard to judge if I will hit or not because of this. I do think I can hit something not at the same depth as me, but I found myself trying to line my character up with enemies regardless.
Helping with aiming was definitely positional tracking, it feels scaled up which makes it easier to lean in, not sure if that's actually the case but that's my take on it. Didn't make me sick or anything, was just helpful most of the time :)
The controller support is not completely there yet, Steam lists it as half support, and they definitely could use more of the buttons to manage the inventory etc. In the how-to they do mention that I can bind keys, not sure if that is also true with a gamepad, didn't really try, I was on an adventure!
Menu navigation is also a bit weird, digital pad doesn't do anything, you accept menu choices with X (Xbox pad), back does nothing. Inside the game Start drops items. It just feels so random, would love better navigation in the menus and perhaps binding options for my character actions.
The game itself, I apparently owned it unbeknownst to me, but I did enjoy it quite a bit. I wonder how co-op works, if one player dies is the person just out of the game then? Is it possible to re-join? I have no idea. It's not like it's very possible to play local-co-op when using the Rift anyway, it'll be a solo experience unless they get online in there.
