LEGO Ninjago Zane’s Power Up Mech EVO (71761)
LEGO Ninjago Zane’s Power Up Mech EVO (71761)
Today’s build is Zane’s Power Up Mech EVO, a fairly simple but serviceable mech. It’s quite sturdy for something held together by ball joints, and is a great way for younger Ninjago fans to get their hands on a mech, which can be among the more complex builds that are best left to the bigger kids. My youngest is absolutely psyched he’s got his very own little “Zane’s Titan Mech” just like his big brother.
Like with Lloyd’s Race Car, I think the armouring up/transforming thing is a bit of a gimmick, but at least the un-armoured mech doesn’t look as bad as the base version of Lloyd’s race car. It does add a little play value.
The build is very straightforward and perfect for the younger kids. The arms and legs are very similar, which can be a little repetitive, but that’s ok for this one. The minfigs are good, and getting 2 in such a small set is great value. Actually, the whole set is great value for only $15 Aussie Dollarydoos (maybe $10 USD?), which is what we pay for Star Wars Microfighters (I guess they have the licensing tax to factor in) that only gets 1 minfig and nowhere near as many large pieces.
You might notice a “slight” change in the lighting part way through the video. Actually, it’s very obvious and not an intentional change that’s meant to signify change as the mech stands up. Unfortunately that’s one of the issues with using StopMotion Studio: occasionally when you exit the app and go back in the exact same settings will give very different results - even if nothing has changed. I literally exited the app to check something else, went back in without changing the lighting and I couldn’t get it back to the way it was. Since I was a couple of hours into the build by then I took the lazy option and didn’t reshoot it. Don’t hate me internet!
