LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Review
Nintendo and LEGO collaborated on a line of LEGO Super Mario sets for all ages. But this time, they've collaborated on something that is geared towards an older audience and is a much bigger build in comparison. This is the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) set and it includes a replica NES, NES controller, and old school TV. I don't own an NES but the LEGO NES looks just like the NES from what I recall, and it even comes with a Super Mario Bros cartridge that you can insert into the NES, which is really cool. There's also a neat easter egg, where you can remove the side panel and see a Mario level incorporated into the design. The NES controller is also just like the actual one and can connect to the NES. But for me, my personal highlight is the TV. It comes with a stand and the TV itself has captured the look and feel of a retro TV perfectly, complete with an antenna at the top and rotating dials on the front. But what's truly magical is that it displays World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros on the TV and using a crank, you can guide Mario through this level. It's just absolutely brilliant. This set is also compatible with the LEGO Super Mario figure (sold separately), which can sit on top of the TV and interacts with the scrolling Mario level, playing the appropriate sound effects as Mario hits blocks or stomps on enemies on the TV. This is absolutely my favorite LEGO set because of that functionality and I highly recommend it to any Nintendo fan.
