The A34 Comet was the last British Cruiser tank ever to be built, and entered service at the end of 1944 during the Second World War as a successor to the A27M Cromwell and a more refined replacement for A30 Challenger and Sherman Firefly. It was equipped with a high-velocity 77mm anti-tank gun capable of dealing with most German vehicles in service at the time. It was largely replaced by the Centurion Main Battle Tank by 1950, though some saw service in the Korean War.
