Lethal Enforcers, 1992 Konami (20 From '92 Part 4)
Involving action shooter with a light gun, in which you are a cop (or 2 cops in 2-player simultaneous play) trying to take down various criminals: gangsters, hijackers, robbers, drug dealers, etc. with your trusty revolver or any other weapon you can get your hands on. The baddies pop up anywhere on the screen (and will always pop up in the same places if you start a game over), and almost all only take one bullet to bring down. Sometimes they have a hostage, and sometimes civilians amble across the screen right in the middle of the action (idiots)! Note that you have a life meter in the appearance of stars-- when they're all gone you are dead and must continue (right where you left off). You can also lose stars by shooting the civilians. You can put in a ton of credits and push start for each one to have a nice long life bar! Often times the screen will pan over a bit as you move to another section of the level, and sometimes you'll move on to a whole different area entirely. NOTE: DO NOT FORGET TO CONSTANTLY REFILL YOUR CHAMBER! Your standard revolver has only 6 bullets. When you run out you can't shoot-- simple as that! To reload, simply point away from the screen and fire. EVEN WHEN YOU AREN'T QUITE OUT OF BULLETS, it's often a good idea to reload. If a bunch of guys pop up within a short space of time you'll be glad you reloaded early. The special weapons (Magnum, Semi-Auto Pistol, Combat Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Submachine Gun, and Grenade Launcher) all appear either in plain sight or may be inside a trunk or suitcase or something that may open up. Shoot the weapon and you have a VERY short supply of bullets for it, which cannot be refilled. At the end of each level you will face a boss; they will take several shots to bring down and will be firing some sort of projectile constantly at you. Trying to take out their projectiles, taking shots at them, AND constantly reloading is a REAL PAIN IN THE ASS! The levels are: Bank Robbery, Chinatown Assault, Hijacking, Drug Dealers, and Chemical Plant Sabotage. 2 target practice levels await your marksmanship (you get nothing for a perfect score; how stupid!). This was pretty darn popular, and digitized captures of live actors (like in Mortal Kombat) certainly aided its appeal. I liked the fact that there were both men and women baddies that you needed to shoot (there are baddies of BOTH genders? Who'da thunk it!). Oh, did I mention you should constantly reload? I did? Well, too bad! CONSTANTLY RELOAD!
