It can be challenging to manage changing story requirements. Game narratives grow to be complex, with multiple overlapping and intertwining elements. It’s difficult to ensure that a large, complex story remains coherent no matter how the player experiences it.

We’ve developed a novel method of managing this, by applying constraint solving to narrative structures. The constraint solver takes formal statements about the rules of your story, and ensures that these rules can never be broken at any point in the game.
