Derrick's father is said to still be serving the country making some sort of medicine that can heal a human being by drinking some sort of substance. Derrick has never been allowed past the second floor of his house, where his bedroom is. His father's workshop takes up everything from the third floor, to the attic. The story begins with Derrick reminiscing about his past with his father. Derrick realizes he should find out what has been going on, why hid dad has been missing for sixteen years, and why his mother has never said anything.
