Let's play Aurora 4x Scenario - part 05 "It's not so bad"
Logistics, logistics, logistics. That is what we are all about here. And I didn't do that much in these episodes of it as I could, I admit that. But the wise people say - start small, end up being big. We are carefully getting information together about our expenses / income and our economy is actually not looking as bad as I thought originally.
As a side note: as it seems several of you are doubtful about my plan to chase the comets. Well you should be, it is OK. But if we are able to build a fast enough transport ship/ships we will be able to chase down and mine comets who have (by far!) the best amount of accessible resources than it is well worth it. Sure, Venus is a great idea in the long run but remember that we would mine only about 1/5 of our mines capacity. On a comet this number can get close to 5/6 easily. Which is why I am pushing towards that so much as it gives us the same amount in 1/5 of the necessary expenses (new ship design and production excluded).
Also I think this is a good place for a review of our current situation. What have we learned and make a conclusion for the next episodes:
a) We have enough wealth to keep going if our production is severally reduced - we are not going bankrupt no matter what (THANK GOD!)
b) We have quite a lot of useful ships - Personnel transports will be great when it comes to hauling our officers as we did now, transport task groups are capable of traversing the space and thus creating our first shipping lines and we even have one capable population transport which is set to transfer population under the command of a skilled captain!
c) Mining is desperately below out current needs but should hold until we get some more (automated) mines up. Priority is definitely duranium and sorium - a good source of this resource could yield us between 800 and 1200 tons of each every year (with the 10 automated mines we are building currently) which should be more than enough to start slowly reactivating production lines and creating first connections to our more distant places. And I am not even talking about getting the more rare minerals from the sources.
So basically Project Restoration is well under way and we will finish it by hopefully finding a good comet and planting our automated mines on them. A yearly or bi-yearly trip will then yield us enough resources to keep our economy chumming at low level and we can move to expanding our production elsewhere. Preferably more comets which would allow better usage of the new transport ship we will have to build and operate to make this happen. And as far as our current fleet goes I think we will be able to utilize it well with the exception of the small defensive shuttles we have - they cost us way too much and provide almost to defensive capability due to their limited range. But we will see how desperate for resources we become.
From the wiki: Aurora is a 4X (eXpand, eXplore, eXploit, and eXterminate) science fiction strategy game. Players develop their interstellar empire from the humble beginnings on their homeworld to conquer the universe, or be pummeled into the ashes of history by opposing races.
Some say it has the graphical charm of an income tax assistant software from the late nineties, but a playing depth that more than rivals any commercial 4X game. Aurora is different because it places emphasis on fleet operations and detailed tactical combat.
The game is under constant development and there is an active and friendly player community in the forum that will help you with any question or problem you might encounter.
