Counter Blow is a real-time strategy game developed by Korean studio CenoZoic. It was first released domestically by SKC on December 10, 1997. Counter Blow was published by Star Fish in Japan, and by Telegames in the Americas.
The game follows the Command & Conquer school of design. Structures are built directly from a central headquarters. Infantry, vehicles, aircraft, and ship are created from their own production facilities, with additional facilities granting a production speed bonus.
Apart from electricity, which is provided by power plants, the only resource is oil, which can be extracted from oil wells and transported to refineries. Structures can be upgraded to unlock more technologies, increase their efficiency, and make them more durable.
All units and defence structures in Counter Blow start at rank F, and through combat, can increase their level to rank S. High-ranking units receive significant boosts to firepower, defence, and speed, and sometimes transform into a different unit altogether. Units can also be transferred between missions.
Counter Blow is set in a world devastated by the landing of a meteor. The tyrannical Zax extracted alien technology from the meteor, and challenges the United States, back by three remaining great powers, for control of Earth.
The game's two campaigns, which feature eleven missions each, were initially sold separately, but ultimately bundled together. A multiplayer mode is included as well, though despite bot functionality, skirmish mode is not available.
