On the first episode of Let's Play Dead Space: Extraction, the mining crew on Aegis VII have discovered an artifact during the planet-cracking procedure. Sam Caldwell and his fellow engineers are sent in to ensure the Marker is properly secured and recovered. However, when they attempt to remove it from it's pedestal, it sends out a shockwave that destabilizes one of the gravity tethers meant to hold up the chunk of the planet. In order to prevent it from becoming a black hole, the team heads inside to fix the tether. However, the shockwave had other effects, as the people they discover inside have become violent and mindless, either attacking them or killing themselves. Sam is left alone as one by one his companions lose their minds and attack him. While he does get the tether repaired, Sam ends up being gunned down by colony security, who think he simply murdered everyone else.
