Dino Crisis, directed by none other than Shinji Mikami, is the first game in Capcom's late 90s sister series to Resident Evil. This game's release was poised between Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. As such, it laid the groundwork for many of the features which would appear later in Nemesis, and even the Devil May Cry series can trace the lineage of some of its features back to Dino Crisis.
Where Resident Evil was a slower paced zombie "survival horror," game, Dino Crisis featured smarter, faster, and overall more aggressive dinosaur-based foes. Mechanically, the two series play and control very similarly, but this distinction in tempo led to Dino Crisis being marketed as being within a separate sub-genre of "panic horror."
