247Either the Shades have grown a lot safer to visit between the first and second game or Rincewind has decided that there's not much point worrying about anything really bad happening there; cosmic fate is unlikely to have him get killed off by something as random as a mugger or a man with a knife after all. No, it'll probably be to some seventeen headed time dragon from beyond the dimensions that can only be defeated with haiku spoken in a dead language while balancing on a magical duck that's made of magical taffy.
While I highly doubt that last statement has any basis at all in the Discworld lore, I'm not going to rule it out. After all, if 1,000,000/1 odds happen 9/10 in Ankh Morpork, there's a slight chance that luck might rub off into the real world every now and again.
