Let's Play Eternal Cave Escape - Part 3
A full, blind playthrough of Eternal Cave Escape. Filled with gameplay and commentary I'll walkthrough this entire rage inducing, heavily punishing platformer. Will I make it out, or will it beat me?
Eternal Cave Escape is a brand new game recently released on Steam. It is a difficult precision based platformer that introduces a wild range of alternate mechanics to keep things interesting and challenges fresh. This is layered upon minimal player controls that leave you nowhere to hide. If you make a mistake, then it's your fault. With only basic movement options, a short jump, a full jump and a mid-air dash you will traverse complex obstacles that at first glance barely even seem possible.
The controls are crisp and very intuitive. I'm honestly impressed at how good they feel as you soon develop a sixth sense for exactly how and where your character will move. You insinctively learn exactly what is possible and the game never surprises you in that regard. Your character always does what you expect, inputs never drop, and everything is completely consistent. This is all very important for a precision platformer and Eternal Cave Escape nails it. It also leaves you with that nagging feeling that everytime you make a mistake, it's your fault. It has to be. You don't have anyone else to blame. It's infuriating, but fair; and I'm grateful for that.
This game is very punishing though. As escaping the cave involves a continue upwards ascent, any mistakes will see you fall down to previous screens. That difficult jump you just cleared? Do it again. If you think that's bad wait until you fall at a less favourable spot. You won't go back 1 screen, more like 5. You improve over time and those once difficult challenges will ultimately become trivial to you, as you learn and teach yourself consistent methods to overcome them. Or until you break and you quit the game in a fit of rage. Whichever comes first.

On this channel I make a variety of gaming content. Sometimes we're reviewing up and coming indie games, sometimes we're revisiting retro classics for a Let's Play. The only consistent factor is that it's all gaming, and it's all accompanied by sarcastic commentary. If that's your thing then I have links:

I always try to be as fair and objective as possible when making my review videos, giving some honest feedback and a bit of criticsm here and there. Remember that games these days are always subject to change so many of the things mentioned here may no longer be true depending on how old this video is.
Please leave a comment if you have any questions about this video, or suggestions for future videos. I'm always open to hearing what you guys have to say.
