My first impressions of Prison Simulator Prologue, showcasing its gameplay and ending with a short review. This video will show my first 60 minutes of unedited gameplay so you can see what an authentic new player experience is like.

This is a new game for Steam that lets us take control of and experience the everyday life of a prison guard; and tests the decisions we would make in an emergency. I predict a riot.

This game is a first person action game that can be subdivided into multiple sections. Firstly there is the day-to-day life of a prison guard; interacting with the prisoners and making sure that they don't overstep the line with yourself, or their fellow inmates. Secondly there are so-called 'routines'. These are more like minigames that must be completed to keep things running smoothly, and include tasks such as cleaning your weapon and checking inbound parcels for contraband. Finally there is the emergency situation. What would you do in a crisis? With no order and no backup can you fight off rioting prisoners and restore some sense of peace?

The prisoners themselves are given real identities in Prison Simulator Prologue. You can customize their appearance, their name, and even upload a photo to map onto their face... with limited success. Furthermore they can be assigned to gangs which have their own rivalries, often involving you taking sides and exchanging favours for bribes or to earn their respect.

Coupled with a barebones RPG-like skills system and the general open ended nature and variety in possibilities, we've got a pretty engaging game with plenty of options and scope for replayability. But is the game actually fun? Well, watch and you'll see.
