Let's Play Final Fantasy VI (Part 2)
Terra falls down a hole and a useless thief comes to save the day. Oh and we meet Moogles!
An interesting thing about Final Fantasy VI is it throws alot of different game mechanics out there. We get the standard ATB combat system but we also get to see Mog's Dance mechanic and the multiparty defense mini game when we protect Terra from the Narshe guards.
Terra is one of the few magic users you will have through the first quarter or so of the game. Despite being a spellcaster, she is more than capable of wearing heavy armor and using swords making her an effective physical attacker as well. Later in the game, she learns to morph into a powered up magic form that doubles all her stats. Unfortunately, I rarely find a use for Morph when I have access to it.
Locke is a thief and your only means to steal items in this game until much later in the game. Unfortunately, Steal fails very often even when wearing items that boost the success rate. Also, there are only a few monsters/bosses in the game worth stealing from which I will try to mention but do not show off in this playthrough. Being a thief, Locke is stuck using various daggers and dirks for attacking. There are boomerangs and flails later on that allows Locke to do damage from the back row as well. Overall, I find Locke useless.
Mog we briefly see during the protect Terra event. He can use spears and has a unique Dance ability. When you activate Dance, the background will change to match the dance you are using and will activate one of four effects the dance has. Once Dance is activated, Mog will continue using the same dance until the battle ends or something stops him. It can be very powerful in support and attacking depending on the dance and how lucky you are. I generally do not like relying on abilities I cannot directly control.
