Game Description via Wikipedia:
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is an upcoming free-to-play digital collectible card game from Blizzard Entertainment. Announced at the Penny Arcade Expo in March 2013, the game is currently in a closed beta with the open beta release sometime during December 2013. It will be initially available on Microsoft Windows and Mac operating systems, with an iPad version available later, and then expanding to iPhone and Android platforms in the middle of 2014.
There are currently 381 cards in the game, with more to be added later; booster packs can either be earned in-game or bought. Each pack comes with five random cards, including at least one "rare". Players can choose one of nine "heroes" which are similar to the classes in World of Warcraft. These classes are Mage, Priest, Warlock, Paladin, Warrior, Druid, Hunter, Rogue and Shaman. The game is based around 1v1 matches and will operate through Blizzard's Battle.net. There are currently no plans for cards to be traded between players.
The Arena mode, which costs money or gold gained in-game to play, has the player making a deck by choosing between 3 cards until you have picked 30 and you use this deck to battle other players -- each win makes your prize better, while three losses ends your Arena play. Arena decks differ from constructed decks because you can have up to four of a card instead of the regular limit of two.
From the beginning, the game was designed to be solely played online and to mimic the feel of physical cards; the game starts with your opening a tactile box, during gameplay the cards waver and move while in your hand, and cards when played slam down on the board. When attacking, card leap across the board to strike the target; when a massive spike of damage is done, the board shakes; when a massive creature is summoned, an unseen audience gasps in awe. Hearthstone also offers interactive boards, a new feature among CCGs. The boards on which the cards played can be interacted with in various ways, although the feature is purely for entertainment and has no effect upon gameplay.
Hearthstone is supported by the purchase of booster packs and Arena Mode entries. Furthermore, unlike other card games, Hearthstone does not use a trading card system and instead allows players to 'disenchant' cards into a form of currency called arcane dust, which can then be used to 'craft' cards of the player's choice.
Blizzard has experimented with cross-platform play, having successfully played a game on PC against a player on an iPad, however it has not been decided if this will be a feature at launch. The developers have also revealed that they are working on single-player adventure modes, with the player able to obtain card rewards for completing them. Card pack expansions have also been discussed for the future.
