Reimu:
Hakurei Shrine Maiden
Her attack spells are of the Spirit element and both Atk and Mag decide its power (this means a monsters Def and Mnd reduce its damage). But her main focus is her two support spells. One is a group heal that is perhaps one of the most powerful in the game (if not the most powerful) and her other buffs the groups (those in the front four slots) Def/Mnd by 50%. This makes her very useful in boss battles as the buff can make the difference between survival or being one shotted.

Marisa:
Human Magician
Marisa is one of the many mage type characters you pick up in this game. She has a wide variety of spells but all of them are of the Mystic element. She has a single target, row target, and multi target spell. She also has a self buff that increases her Mag by 50%. Her signature spell though is Master Spark which is a massive single target spell that eats up all of her SP in one big attack. All excess SP beyond the original cost of the spell boosts the power of the spell.

Sakuya:
Maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion
Sakuya has mostly average stats. Her attacks are physical base but nothing too fantastic compared to other DPSers. She has a couple of multi target spells and a single target attack spell of varying degrees of power (all involving throwing or using knives). Her multi target spells makes her somewhat useful for clearing out trash mobs while exploring the labyrinth. But what Sakuya is most known for is her ability to manipulate time. She can boost her own Speed greatly by using The World or do a 50% Speed buff to the entire party with Lunar Clock. Speed is always helpful in boss battles as it could mean getting in extra hits or swapping out before the boss can counter.

Patchoulli:
Magician (born as a Magician and is therefore immortal) and Librarian of the Scarlet Devil Mansion
Mage would not be enough to describe Patchy. She is one of the slowest and physically frail characters in the game. But she sports some of the highest Magic and Mind growths in the game. So while physical attacks kill her in one hit, she can usually completely ignore magic based hits. All of Patchy's spells except for one are multi target. She has fire, cold, wind, and nature aoe spells and a piercing (ignores some defense) single target non elemental spell. If you can work around her speed and keep her out of harms way, Patchy can reliably tear up both bosses and trash mobs alike.

Remilia:
Vampire and Mistress of the Scarlet Devil Mansion
Your first tank. Remilia sports high stats in almost all areas. She is rather durable and fast. Her only limiting factors are her slow leveling rate and her limited choice of spells. She only has a single target attack that is rather powerful and a self buff that boosts all of Remilia's stats but also has a chance of causing Poison and Paralyze. These side effects can be worked around by building her resistance with items.
Though a tanky character, most people use Remilia for offense. They focus level ups in her attack and let her fill the second slot of the front row to act as a sort of tanky dps. But for now, she is our only tank and can hit as hard as one.
