Let's Play Labyrinth of Touhou (Part 12)
We begin exploring floor 5 and gain another party member. But first, let us talk about Alice since the last discussion was entirely about the boss fight.
Alice:
Magician (formly human but did the necessary ritual to be considered the race 'magician)
Doll Master
Alice is our third mage character and tends to be the most flexible. Her stats are decent across the board, making her a rather durable mage that can be somewhat tanky if you want to build her that way. But she is no slack when it comes to magic. The unique thing about her spells compared to Marisa and Patch is that all four of her spells each has a debuff attached to them. The other unique quality to her spells is two of them actually is consider physical despite using her Magic stat. This makes her capable of fighting things that are essentially immune to magic with her physical based spells and still do just fine.
Return Inanimateness is a single target fire attack that is considered physical, it is her only non area spell and can be useful against bosses (assuming said boss is not resistant to fire). Seeker Dolls is a rather efficient non elemental magic based area spell that debuffs Magic. I generally use this spell to sweep through random encounters. Little Legion is another non elemental area spell but this one is physical based. It costs more SP than Little Legion but good for fights that involve magic resistant foes. It debuffs, Defense. And her final spell is Holland Doll which is a Mystic element area spell that is magic based. It is one of her higher damage spells but also can be resisted by Mind more easily than Little Legion. It debuffs Mind.
Her disadvantage is that she may not always dish out as much focused damage as Marisa's Master Spark or Patchy's Silent Selene. Also, having all her spells have debuffs on them can cause major issue in some boss fights where said boss reacts aggressively when debuffed. Overall though, she is a rather safe caster can be made to work in most parties.
Aya:
Crow Tengu Reporter
Aya is another physical speed demon much like Chen. But she levels a bit slower but has higher stats and stat growth so both of them are rather balanced. Aya's spells are much different than Chen's though, mostly involving buffing Speed and Wind based attacks. Wind God's Fan is a Wind based singled target attack that is slower than Chen's attack but can hit harder. Divine Grandson's Advent is an area wind attack that effects all targets equally instead of being a row attack. It is rather decent for clearing out random encounters. Sarutahiko's Guidance is a single target Speed buff that increases the targets Speed by 50%. Her final spell, Peerless Wind God is a another single target Wind attack but it has the added effect of buffing Aya's Speed by 30% each time it is used, making her faster with each successive cast.
In the end its a matter of taste if you prefer Aya or Chen (or take them both). Chen tends to be much better for physical focused damage while Aya has a bit more utility and variety.
