Reisen:
Moon Rabbit
A mage with low stats, low level up rate, and less then stellar damage formulas for her spells. But, Reisen has multiple means to make up for her many disadvantages. Discarder is a single target fire spell that has the ability to debuff all stats by 15%. Persistent casts of this can quickly bring a boss's debuffs to -50% and effectively weaken their ability to harm the party. Lunatic Red Eyes is an Area Mystic spell that debuffs Mind by 35% and Mind Starmine is much the same cept boasts higher damage but no debuff. She also has Gas Woven Orb which is a rather weak Nature based Area spell that can poison though I have never used it (there are better poisons out there). But one of her primary means to make up for her lesser stats is by buffing them all at once with Grand Patriot's Elixir. This will increase all of Reisen's stats by 40% and has an extremely low delay time. Once SP counts reach the late game, it becomes very possible to quickly spam her buffs up and output some decent damage with her attack spells while also debuffing her foes.

Eirin:
Lunarian
Mage/Support that has low leveling rate, high stats, and decent damage ratios. I can't say too much about Eirin. I never used her much. She has impressive stats and sports a number attack spells some of which have debuffs and a rather unique healing spell. Galaxy in a Pot is a single target non elemental spell. Mercury Sea is an Area Cold based spell that debuffs Attack on all targets. Omoikane's Device is an Area Mystic based spell that debuffs Magic and Astronomical Entombing is a high delay, high cost, Area Spirit based skill that can clear monsters rather well. But really, beyond having a nice variety of elements, most casters can fill the nuker role more reliably.

Her healing spell though, Hourai Elixir, is rather unique as it heals based on a percentage. No matter what, it will heal 50% of the targets max hp. This is also the only healing spell in the game that can heal someone ABOVE their max hp. The bonus hp is only good for one hit though before it is reseted back to the normal max but it still can have some uses against potentially deadly spells.

So... support, nuking, or perhaps both. Eirin can potentially fill these roles but I personally have trouble finding a role for her in my parties.
