Let's Play Limbo - Part 2
Welcome to Let's Play Limbo episode 2. The goal of this let's play is to analyze the narrative, present theories on what the game's many symbols represent, show off one of gaming's greatest gems, and to show where to get all of the hidden eggs. This is a 100% playthrough of the XBLA version of the game (no additional content from the PS3/Steam release).
Limbo is a side-scrolling puzzle platformer independently developed by Playdead and released in 2010 on Xbox Live Arcade. The game sports a unique black-and-white art style in which the foreground is primarily presented in black sillouhettes whereas the background contrasts as being primarily white. While the clever puzzles and expert pacing make the gameplay engaging, what really allows Limbo to stand out is its excellent narrative which is built entirely upon symbolism and the mechanics. In fact, not a single word of dialogue is ever spoken to advance the story, nor is exposition laid out in text form. The rich narrative is entirely open-ended as a result of this. Limbo was later released, with additional content, on the Playstation Network as well as PC digital distribution services such as Steam.
From Playdead's website (http://limbogame.org/company/):
"Playdead is an independent game studio based in Copenhagen. It was founded by Arnt Jensen and Dino Patti in 2006.
We're currently 20 people in the office.
LIMBO was Playdead's first production, but we're working hard on bringing our next project to the masses. This is being realized with an almost intact LIMBO team and of course with Arnt Jensen as the Director."
The music in the beginning of episode 1 comes from the game's soundtrack. The track is titled, "Survival Instinct."
