Tifa is off on a work trip, so Jack gets to play a game he... has history with.
Mighty No. 9 - the game that was to establish an entire franchise spanning live-action movies, an anime and lord knows what, supposed to dethrone and supplant Mega Man. Birthed by Keiji Inafune after his departure from Capcom, it was supposed to be the next big thing, brought to us by the power of Kickstarter.
Between the delays, unfulfilled promises to backers and some of the dumbest marketing ever conceived - "cry like an anime fan on prom night" - Mighty No. 9 turned out to be a masterclass alright.
A masterclass in mediocrity, a tour de force of how dumb decisions can ruin a game that showed promise.
A younger, more naive Jack backed the game way back when. And when it released, he played like an hour of it, deinstalled it and never touched it again.
This changes now: He made his bed, now it's time to sleep in it!
We follow Beck, a legally distinct robot with blue details and an arm cannon with the ability to copy other robots, as he hurls himself through a maze of everything anybody ever hated about Mega Man.
Will he save the world? More importantly: Will we even still care?
