See what I did thar?

On to the useful bit; progressing further in the main questline enough to get the final Daedra Shrine quest, and figuring out that, yes, you can just talk to the mudthulhu to get it, no need to REST, since waiting won't work. Wish I knew that earlier. Also decided to give Martin the Sanguine Rose, since he's got a bit of history with it. It'll probably never come up again, but he and a few of his buddies, back when they were in the Mage's Guild, desired power and knowledge, and turned to Sanguine to get it. They, somehow, obtained the rose, and all of Martin's friends got slaughtered using it.

Now, Hermaeus Mora is the prophetic, "knowledge is power" type of guy...mudthulhu thing. His plane of Oblivion is Apocrypha, an endless library filled to the brim with non-titled books holding all kinds of imaginable knowledge, and haunting ghosts forever looking for it. Of all the planes of Oblivion that could theoretically be in Oblivion, Apocrypha would be both the most dull and possibly my favorite next to the Shivering Isle. Infinite knowledge that goes beyond the grasp of most mortals is bound to drive most insane and do unpredictable things to the rest, making it a breeding ground for madmen, geniuses and a small pool of random, unstable individuals. How Hermaeus Mora and Sheogorath never teamed up is beyond me; since Jyggalag was cursed by ALL the Daedric princes to become Sheogorath, it'd make sense the two didn't get along very well. Strange, since the library Dyus (you remember him, don't you?) was presumably maintaining would have probably been something Hermaeus Mora would have approved of. I assume that neither alliance worked out since Jyggalag would have turned all of Oblivion into his realm of Order, making past, present a future a single thought and any knowledge beyond that pointless, and Sheogorath, while he would have kept things for Hermaeus Mora to figure out, Sheogorath doesn't like predictions, as made clear by his burning the Library Dyus was looking after, and burning a library must be a major no-no for Hermaeus Mora, even if all it contained was only a single aspect of both Oblivion and Nirn alike.

Also I just wasted your time, because none of that speculation will be of any importance what-so-ever in TES VI or any possible Skyrim DLC - Hermaeus Mora will still give you some quest in return for the awesomeness he gives in this game, Sheogorath will still hand you some fun quest in return for the Wabbajack, and Jyggalag will be as forgotten as ever, count on it.

Also, I never showed it off, but the rose summons a random Daedra from Dagon's command (since only those exist in this game) that will kill who's hit by the rose, and than turn on the one who used the rose. Apparently Martin's buddies got creamed, I sincerely hope they at least summoned a Xivilai to tear them a new one, otherwise I'd feel really sad...that I live in the same world as those...ineffective fools.
