I am not escorting a bunch of suicidal morons through not-Hell, I HATE escort mission, and these are no exception.

Guess what? The rest of the MQ from this point on consists entire of escort missions, a bunch of Oblivion gate closing (which in itself consists of THE WORST ESCORT MISSION), and one maybe two different things, like fetch quests. There's, of course, a reason for this: In Morrowind you had to defeat the Big Bad alone, and people that levelled or cheesed enough managed to cream him so hard people complained that he wasn't a real threat. In Oblivion the Big Bad, Dagon, isn't quite someone I can just snipe from a distance. I'm Sheogorath, you say, I should be able to work some Daedric Prince wizardry? Yeah, if Dagon were to invade the Shivering Isle; in Nirn all I have is my trusty Staff of Sheogorath, and nothing else.

Fun Fact: Dagon, like every other Daedric Prince, has a signature artefact, Mehrunes' Razor...except it's DLC, so guess what you'll never, ever see. The Razor itself is actually in the game already, but only the Razor; the Daedric Banishing effect, Sundercliff, and everything else isn't. The DLC also contains arguably the biggest screw-up Bethesda made in Oblivion; editing Daedric War Axes rather than coding a separate Daedric War Axe item for use in the DLC. The difference is that the former affects EVERY Daedric War Axe, the latter only the DLC-ones, as they should. This is one of the first things modders learn, and even novice modders don't make this mistake. To Bethesda's credit they did fix it later, and didn't repeat the mistake with the Durable Daedric War Axes in the Shivering Isle, but still.
