Let’s Play Okamiden - Episode 23: The Calming Winds of Technological Change
After sacrificing our cool electric drum that we got in the last episode that made us immune to electricity, we venture deeper into the Underground Ruins, only to find ourselves in a sleeker, more technologically-advanced area with much calmer music that has a focus on (mostly) wind and (very few) lightning puzzles. Yet despite this new area being much more advanced than the previous section we explored, the only magnetism “puzzle” present is opening a single door, thus showcasing just how underutilized magnetism is in this game.
For instance, in this section of the dungeon, the game could have had at least one puzzle that involved you using lightning and magnetism in conjunction with each other to create an electromagnet. Perhaps the game could have implemented a section where Chibi and Kurow would need to split up, during which the former would have to utilize metal platforms to cross gaps, with standard magnetism bringing them closer to each other, but not all the way, and magnetism after the platforms have been charged with electricity bringing them right next to each other. And if the player wanted to remove the electricity from a charged platform to make it regular, they could do so by simply using wind on it.
Though missed opportunities aside, we make it through the rest of the Underground Ruins and will be fighting the boss in the next episode.
