Let’s Play Okamiden - Episode 19: An Attractive New Power
After venturing through more of the Underground Ruins, we encounter another brush god statue and get a brand-new power: Magnetism, which allows us to pull metal objects together or force them apart whenever we want. Though as interesting as this power is and all of the possibilities it brings to the table, it’s unfortunately a rather niche power since metal objects aren’t exactly widespread in Nippon; which would explain why Kyokugami is arguably so weak. After all, who’s going to be revering magnetism in a world where most objects are made out of wood and stone?
Seriously, when it comes to weakness, Kyokugami could even give the version of Yomigami that we see in “Okami” a run for his money. I mean, how could a god of magnetism be trapped in an area that’s made almost entirely out of metal and is filled with magnetic doors? I don’t care if those ruins were buried under several feet of earth- it doesn’t change the fact that Kyokugami is a giant whale who could use his brute strength in conjunction with the iron in the ground to escape. This is why Kyokugami wasn’t part of the pantheon of brush gods in “Okami” despite his kids claiming that they served Chibi’s ancestor. Ammy knew that Kyokugami was all about and would only slow her down as went from town to town.
