First thing's first, of course, and that is training the two new Pokémon that I just caught. I want Sonja to get at least to level 10 to evolve into Butterfree, and Ampere, though I wasn't intending on training it at first I went ahead and got to level 6 to aid us with trainers on Route 3.

Once we're finished with that we return to Pewter. We run around and talk to most of the townsfolk. I skip out on the museum as it's really not that interesting. I try to leave to Route 3 via the east exit from town, but get stopped by a rude disappearing kid who dragged me to the local Gym. Ah well...

Pewter Gym is supposed to be home to Rock Type Pokémon, and sure enough, the leader is packing Rock Types... but the sole Jr. Trainer in the Gym has Ground Types instead. I suppose there really isn't much one can do about that, as the total number of Rock Types in this game are quite low, and these two provided much more challenge than a Rock Type likely would have, anyways.

The Jr. Trainer has two Pokémon, Diglett and Sandshrew. Both will hit really hard, and Sandshrew is tough on defense and has the Sand Attack move to lower our accuracy and prolong the fight. I wound up having to use Potion on Shallots to prevent him from fainting, but it worked out in the end. He didn't get to level 13 to learn Vine Whip yet, but I'll roll with it.

I needed to heal after that fight, so I ran back to the Pokémon Center and proceeded to purchase a few more Potions as a just-in-case measure. We will challenge Brock for the Badge in the next video!
