Now that our meager little team is all level 8, I head west of Viridian City to see what's out there. What's out there is Darksol, gloating as usual. He's caught a Pidgey and has gotten it to level 9, while the Charmander he started with is level 8. Had his Charmander been one level higher, it would have have Ember, and would have been much more dangerous, but as such it could only Scratch and Growl still.

Here on route 22, you can find the mirrored species of Nidoran. The male variety of Nidoran is much more prominent in Red and the Female variety is much more prominent in Blue. You CAN find both of them here, but the chance of running into the opposite gender is much lower. Both varieties are Poison Type and eventually evolve into a dual Poison/Ground Type. Male Nidoran tend to have stronger moves and higher attack, while Female Nidoran wind up with higher defense and somewhat weaker moves. Both fill out separate Pokédex entries, so you will need to catch and evolve both of them for completion, and both will require Moon Stones for their highest evolutions.

After defeating Darksol again, we continue west to try and reach the Pokémon League at Indigo Plateau, only to be turned away because we do not have the Boulder Badge. I guess we have no choice but to go to Viridian Forest to the north...
